As the contestants slowly trickled in to Deep Creek Lake, Jittany Thursday night got under way and was highlighted by heavy drinking, an explosive hold em cash game and many blouns about 70%. After the stirring Friday morning golf invitational at WISP Resort, Jittany Classic 9 officially kicked-off with the inaugural Whitewater Rafting event. The competitors looked fine, fresh and fierce in their life jackets and helmets. After a trial run down the course the teams lined up for a running start for the big race. Just seconds into the Jittany, Don took his first step in locking up the You Suck! award with a horrendous start in which his agile frame was unable to get into the raft. Tenacia Raggazzi (aka Tenacity Boys, aka Ten Ragz) cruised to victory and an early Jittany lead, with The Lone Rangers coming in second, a position they would become very familiar with. The victory was short-lived for Scuz who shortly after the winning run lost his wedding ring as the Ten Ragz raft was violently dumped into the man-made whitewater course. His second career Horse's Ass was inevitable. A bit later in the BBQ Games Relay Race event the teams finished in the same order again, with the football tire throw and the Badminton shot proving to be a handful for many competitors. Hota may still be firing footballs as we speak. Between events, Thunda and KMan successfully navigated a sloped Haynesworth course with several seconds to spare. Moving to the third event, Ten Ragz lost their dominant form, getting brutally beat down by The Lone Rangers in This or That? that featured a Remidder phone-a-friend. Ending Day 1's festivities, The Lone Rangers and Ten Ragz were tied for the lead with 11 points, with Hangover a distant third.
The Jittany experienced a few bumps in the road on Day 2, with the Par-3 portion of the Golf Challenge having to be changed to Mini Golf due to the closing of bat-shit crazy Larry Liller's homemade Par-3 course. "Thieves and booze-hounds" were responsible for the course shutdown. Hangover took advantage, on the strength of Gill's stellar round of 40, and took home their first event win in Mini Golf with The Lone Rangers capturing a close 2nd to take their first outright lead of the Jittany by 2 points over Ten Ragz. A disastrous Swimming Relay race was staged in Deep Creek Lake amongst debris and dead fish with Ten Ragz getting back into a share for the lead, thanks to GSil's strong finishing kick. The Lone Rangers again finished in second while Don all but locked up the You Suck! award with a wayward swim stroke that left the Hangover in last place again. After an easy Bearclaw win for Ten Ragz, they headed into the Flip Cup finale with a two point lead over The Lone Rangers.
The group stayed busy waiting for Flip Cup after dark with a number of hot tub soaks, Survivor Whiffle Ball HR Derby, Sports Trivia and a Hand-writing identification challenge. When the final event started, Ten Ragz took advantage of their strong Flip Cup squad and imposed their will by winning the first 5 games, effectively ending the ninth version of the Jittany Classic. Hangover salvaged some self respect with a strong Flip Cup finish but ultimately took home last place with The Lone Rangers (team silver) accepting their second place destiny. Jittany Saturday night ended with a music video, a blind beer taste-test that led to Miller Lite's lifetime Jittany ban, a rambunctious game of Kings (felch your-self, felch your-self!), the Don "Sex-on-the-beach" prank reveal and some homemade Family Fued. After a delightful Sunday mnorning breakfast, Scuz's constant "chatter" and "buzz" had finally paid off with his first MTP's Yellow Jacket. Overall, a very good Jittany.
